New challenge from the Austrian Competence Centre - Timber offensive for Austrian motorways

In the coming years mobility will need to become more sustainable. ASFINAG, as the company mainly responsible for Austria's freeways and expressways, is right in the middle of this and wants to make greater use of wood in new applications on and alongside Austria's highways and expressways. It is now looking for innovative ideas, products and solutions, which can be submitted within the framework of an IÖB Challenge until November 30, 2021!

ASFINAG has its own stock of trees, along the roads or in the immediate vicinity of them. A part of the tree existence is already processed as biomass and ASFINAG has already successfully tested traffic signs made of bamboo and Accoya. The 'green' traffic signs indicate what could be possible in the future, as the new timber construction offers tangible innovative solution possibilities.

The challenge

ASFINAG wants to integrate its wood from roadside forests even better into its operations. New uses for domestic wood on and off Austrian highways are being sought. As part of the IÖB Challenge, ideas and innovative products with strong implementation potential can be submitted until November 30, 2021.
