Artificial intelligence in the public sector

The German Competence Centre for Innovation Procurement, KOINNO, has published a report that maps examples of the usage of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector. The document aims at inspiring other public buyers interested in applying AI in their cities and organisations. The report is divided in areas, covering Germany, EU Member States, European region and international.

Among the examples, ther virtual service assistent Bobbi that the Municipality of Berlin is using: a chatbot that gives answers 24/7 and learns from every dialogue and is available in English and other seven languages. In Portugal, the City Hall of Lisbon partnered with the National Civil Engineering Laboratory and Instituto Superior Técnico to put in place AI systems to gather, treat, classify and use urban mobility and sitautional context data to map out and manage traffic flux in an integrated way. The report also presents a case from US, where AI is being used review image scans used to diagnose lung cancer.

Established by the Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy, KOINNO is promoting innovation procurement in Germany and support public buyers with a wide range of services, from training to in-house consulting. To download the AI report, go here.
